Jodie and the kids were in last week, which was totally awesome and a totally different post. So I had some time off. I took last Tuesday off to be with them. Monday before I left my manager told me to be mindful of the traffic because Obama would be in town for a fundraising event. Near mid-day I decided to take us on a scenic drive to A) Miss Traffic and B) do some more sight-seeing as we had finished early. When I got to a certain point in our drive we found ourselves surrounded by "Do Not Park Here" signs and cops galore. There was a cop directing traffic in our little 2 lane neighborhood tourist site. Then I saw a sign that read "Valet Event Parking" and I started putting the pieces together that this must be the location of the fundraising event. We all looked around and saw the unmarked secret service cars. We got very excited. A block later we were able to see the water and saw a police boat keeping the lake clear of boats. We also saw the media. At that point we knew. About 5 blocks later came the motorcycle police who forced everyone to pull over. The first vehicle was a hearse, the next one was a limo full of men. The next were two limos with black windows. Jodie, former military, pointed to one and said that it was the special armored limos that could withstand a tank. We then deduced that the president was in it and proceeded to all scream in excitement. They passed and more motorcycle police. A block later drove by a white sedan of some sort and another police car. We are 99.9% sure that Obama and his entourage passed us on the road!!!
When we got home we were talking when we heard 3 loud booms, almost like an explosion. We ran outside but could see nothing. That night we found out that some lady had flown into a no-fly zone and 3 jets took off from the Portland area to stop her. It took them 8 minutes to get from Portland to Seattle. The noises we heard were the sonic boom. Sucks for her, but how awesome for us?! I heard there were T-shirts being created that say, "I heard it first, Obooma 2010"
